CHALLENGE
Going from cream walls, a beige base band and olive-drab doors to white, gray and black is a color change, not a refresh: nothing can be left half-covered, on any elevation. And a Mediterranean house is mostly edges — the tower, the tile-roof returns, three arches, a gray base band that has to hold one line the whole way round — with a finished pool and deck at the back that had to come out of it unmarked.
SOLUTION
Protected before a drop of paint: pool deck, glazing, screen enclosure, fixtures and planting all masked off. Pressure washed back to sound stucco — dirt, mildew, chalking and loose paint off — minor cracks repaired and the repairs primed. Then Loxon Concrete & Masonry Primer/Sealer over all masonry, and Sherwin-Williams Emerald Exterior Acrylic Latex in satin: SW 7006 Extra White on the walls, SW 7659 Gris on the base band and the window and door trim, SW 6258 Tricorn Black on the garage doors, the front door and the accents. The base band held to one line around the arches, the tower and the roof returns, and both balconies included.
RESULT
A house that was cream, beige and olive, now white, gray and black on every elevation — eight days, with the pool and deck handed back exactly as they were found.
